
Myndos Gate used to be part of city wall built around Halicarnassus (the former name of Bodrum) in the 4th century BC. The construction was realized under the control of the king Mausolus. The defensive wall was 7 km long. Unfortunately, only the remnants of the two watch towers which form the Gate and ancient moat remain till nowadays. The walls proved to be affective during the siege of Halicarnassus by the forces of Alexander the Great in 334 BC. It is possible to climb the stairs and reach the top of the tower to enjoy splendid view of the area around.
