La Lonja de la Seda

La Lonja de la Seda

La Lonja de la Seda, or the Silk Exchange, once served as a bustling hub for silk trading. This precious fabric was sold from here to various parts of Europe. Constructed in the 15th century, La Lonja was a testament to Valencia's booming economic wealth and influence. Today, the building is widely regarded as one of the finest examples of Gothic civil architecture globally. It is no surprise that UNESCO included La Lonja in its World Heritage list.

The Silk Exchange's imposing exterior echoes a fairy-tale castle, while some of its interiors resemble a cathedral or a temple of commerce. Particularly striking is the Trading Hall (La Sala de Contratación), with its twisted columns and vaulted ceiling reflecting Valencia's prosperity and power during the Middle Ages.

La Lonja de la Seda also boasts an impressive tower. A climb of 144 winding steps will bring you to the tower's summit, where you can enjoy breathtaking views of Valencia.
