The Cathedral stands majestically at the heart of Palma de Mallorca's historical center. This stunning example of Gothic architecture began construction during Jaime I's reign in the 13th century, reaching completion only in the 16th. Locals affectionately refer to it as the "Cathedral of Light" for its adornment of 61 stained glass windows. The centerpiece, a spectacular rose window, is the largest of its kind in Europe. The striking interplay of light and intricate architecture within the Cathedral creates a truly awe-inspiring atmosphere that leaves no visitor unmoved.
In the early 20th century, renowned architect Antoni Gaudí contributed to the Cathedral's restoration. While some of his ideas were brought to life, the entire project was never fully realized. A climb of 280 steps rewards you with an extraordinary panorama from the Cathedral's roof terrace and bell tower. Here, you can also closely appreciate the magnificent rose window, an experience in itself.
