Old Town

Old Town

he Old Town of Malaga is a labyrinth of medieval pedestrian streets winding around charming squares adorned with elegant fountains. Along these narrow, historic lanes, you can explore more than just art galleries and stunning churches; you will also encounter unique shops, ambient tapas bars, and refined restaurants. The addition of street performers and musicians creates a vibrant atmosphere where the old and new meld into a distinctive blend.

The central hub of the Old Town is Plaza de la Constitución, the stage for the city's most significant events. Adjacent to the square, you'll find one of Malaga's most unique churches, the Church of Saint John the Baptist. Construction of the church began in the 15th century, shortly after the Muslim rulers were expelled from Malaga. Intriguingly, the church's exterior combines Gothic and Moorish architectural elements, while its interior reveals a clear influence of the Baroque style. Thus, the Church of Saint John the Baptist symbolizes Malaga itself, a magnificent fusion of diverse cultures.
