Mandraki Harbour

Mandraki Harbour

At the resplendent gateway to Rhodes, Mandraki Harbour stands as a testament to the island's storied past. It is widely believed that this very location once bore witness to the awe-inspiring Colossus of Rhodes, a monumental statue that graced the annals of history as one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. In the present day, where the Colossus's feet were thought to have been firmly planted, now stand two elegant deer statues, gracefully embodying the spirit of Rhodes itself.

The enchanting 15th-century Fortress of St. Nicholas stands guard at the harbor's entrance, a steadfast sentinel, ever vigilant against the intrusions of invaders. This venerable structure adds a layer of historical depth to the picturesque scene that unfolds before the eyes of every visitor.

As if to complete the evocative panorama of the harbor, the distant past has bequeathed a gift of medieval windmills, their sails gently turning in the Aegean breeze. Of the original collection, three continue to grace the landscape, their silhouettes etched against the azure sky, inviting onlookers to ponder the tales they could tell, if only the stones could speak.
