Golden crown of Rhodes: The best sights!
Enjoy the best of Rhodes, visiting its 3 most popular sights: Butterfly Valley, Kallithea Springs and the ancient city Filerimos. Fall in love with Rhodes once and forever!
Leave all the problems behind and welcome to the magical world of Olympic Gods and medieval monks! Our local, top professional guide will share with you not only his knowledge of the deep Rhodes history but also infect you with Greek easygoing lifestyle.
In the comfortable, air-conditioned van, we drive to Kallithea Springs where you will be impressed by the natural beauty of this lovely bay surrounded by the rocks on one side and by the transparent sea on the other. Local thermal springs gained its popularity many centuries ago but keep attracting the visitors up to nowadays. Sculptures, fountains, flower gardens and of course numerous caves, creeks, and grottoes fill the place with harmony and peace which simply can’t leave you indifferent.
Our next stop is Butterfly Valley. Get ready for the real miracle! No matter what, every year from May to September, thousands of Jersey Tiger Moths attracted by the scent of the Oriental Sweetgum trees come to this 600-acre nature park. They actually cover the entire landscape! While asleep butterflies are well-camouflaged in black and yellow but when they fly their wings flash with cherry-red.
Afterwards we go to the ancient city of Filerimos. On both sides of our road you will admire olive, cypress, pomegranate, and other beautiful fruit trees. Filerimos is built on the site of former Doric city – Ialyssos on 267-meter hill. Views which open from it, of the white and green countryside on one side and of the sparkling sea on the other, are stunning. Walk towards the Monastery of Filerimos built in the 15th century in impassive Gothic style and enter the beautiful Church of Our Lady. Stroll along stone Golgotha path decorated with reliefs depicting scenes of the Passions of Jesus in the direction of the impressive 30-meter cross. During the centuries this Monastery remained almost unchanged that is probably the reason why the place is beloved by the locals who come here to celebrate the weddings. Before leaving the Monastery, don’t forget to try the famous 7 Herbs Liquor, prepared according to the monks’ secret recipe.
During the day apart from organized tour the guide will give you some free time, so you will be able to capture the spirit of the place and enjoy it in your own way.
